The Project
The Galaxy team was looking to expand their product range to include a custom-branded core ID card. Core ID cards are a helpful tool in the print room to quickly identify details of any given media roll.
The request was to create something unique that stood out from the competition. When inserted, the most important details should remain visible and the concealed information should be for the finer details – helpful for when reordering.
The Process
I tried lighter tints of the three colours I've paired with the Galaxy print medias (blue for Max-Flat, green for EnviroCheck, and gold for Pro Block). The first issue with this was that the blue actually turned out quite purple, and the overall design wasn't all that different than what was already out there.
I was hesitant to use a reversed (white) version of the Galaxy logo simply because I thought it looked strange. I set the project down and went back a few days later and once I realized I was the one holding myself back, I was able to start over and create the final design (shown below).
In the end I opted for a sturdy display board that could support itself and maintain its shape when fit snug into a media core. Finished with a laminated coating for durability, users are still able to write product details with pen, pencil, or marker.
Applications
To add value to the new range of media racks and create a positive first impression, I created and assembled freebie kits to include with each sale of a new media rack. Inside each kit is a product brochure highlighting the new arrivals, a Galaxy pen, three core ID cards, and most importantly a Thank You card.
After testing the durability of the core ID cards, printers might just add them to their next stocking order of Galaxy print media.
